Sheffield Swimming Association

Welcome to the relaunch of the Sheffield Schools’ Swimming Championships. Following a short break due to Covid-19 and Brian Deakin stepping down, we are pleased to be able to take up the mantle and continue the legacy of an association that is over 100 years old. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for all his work with the association over the years.

Next Event: Primary School Swimming Gala 2025

Location: Ponds Forge Swimming Pool

Date: To be confirmed.

Time: 7pm to 9pm

Officiated by the Sheffield ASA volunteers.

Signing Up

Up to 20 Sheffield schools can compete in the gala each year and places are offered to current association members first. However, we do have some places still available for next year's gala and so we are looking to invite more schools to join us.

If you would like to sign up, please click here.

  • A school’s team is made up of at least 8 children – 2 x Year 3/4 girls and 2 x Year 3/4 boys & 2 x Year 5/6 girls and 2 x Year 5/6 boys.
  • There are 10 events as set out in the table below.

  • You could have more than 8 children take part or you could have different children in the various events so long as they are in the correct age ranges.
  • To give more schools a chance of winning a trophy, we shall again be organising the gala into two divisions. The last school from Division A last year will swap with the winner from Division B. Any new schools will be added to Division B with everyone else moving up the order. Heat 1 of each event will be Division A teams with Heat 2 being Division B teams. Points will be awarded in the usual way and winners honoured in each division.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL YOUR COMPETITORS ARE CONFIDENT AND ABLE SWIMMERS e.g. 100m AT LEAST.

2023 Swimming Gala

The 2023 swimming gala saw 14 schools take part in the competition. We were blown away by the dedication of the children who took part, the school staff who came along to support the children at the event and the parents, carers and other supporters who cheered the swimmers on with untiring enthusiasm. The atmosphere was amazing and all the participants had a great time, regardless of their race results.
